The Midway Cafe is located near mile marker 80 in Islamorada, sandwiched between the Overseas Highway and Old State Highway 4A. A popular establishment for breakfast and lunch, the Midway Cafe also serves speciality hot and cold coffee drinks, smoothies, and famous Key Lime pie.
We stopped by the Midway Cafe later on a Saturday morning and found it quite busy. The building seems like a series of trailer homes fitted end to end and space was limited inside. After we learned that this is a counter-service restaurant, we waited in line and tried to hug the wall so as to not be in the way of the people delivering food. After ordering, we went in search of a table. Seating was limited inside since it was busy, so my husband and I found an empty table outside (where there are a few places to sit). Our food was delivered quickly and our order was made correctly.
The Florida fresh squeezed orange juice was a real treat! Everything that we ate and drank was very good. I had a veggie burrito that was very delicious and very filling. The coffee was also good too. Refills are hard to come by since there is no wait staff, but we were lucky enough to get a coffee refill from the “Midway Express” window in the back of the cafe.
There is a large variety of food and drinks served here, with both a breakfast and lunch menu. All of their baked goods and breads are made at the cafe. Prices were reasonable, the staff was friendly, and the food was great. They are supposed to have heavenly Key Lime pie but I wasn’t able to try a slice. All the more reason to come back!
If you’re in the area, I recommend dining at the Midway Cafe.
