If you have never been to a J. Alexander’s Restaurant before, do yourself a favor and find one!

When I was recently in Plantation, Florida, my husband took me here because this is his favorite place to eat when here on business. The restaurant does not take reservations, but they do have “call ahead seating.” I recommend doing so, especially for dinner plans.  This is a popular spot and tends to be busy.

The atmosphere for J. Alexander’s is upscale yet comfortable. Neutral colors and dark wood tones emanate throughout. The setting definitely gave off a romantic vibe, with jazz music playing, dim lighting, and an overall relaxed atmosphere – clearly a place you take a date or a spouse. This kind of ambiance is what I often look for and desire in a dining establishment.

J. Alexander’s does not have a very large menu. They also don’t have many vegetarian options. However, the veggie burger they serve is phenomenal! It was actually the best vegetable burger I have ever had. (I’ve eaten a lot of them!) It is made fresh, in-house, and is mostly made of beets and rice. You can find a copycat recipe here. (I have to say I have not tried the copycat recipe to see how similar it is.) Lots of people online rave about this burger too. Any meat-eater should definitely try this burger because it is unlike anything you’ll ever taste! It was served with a crispy outside that is glazed in a sauce that reminds me of a honey/soy sauce combination. It was so delicious!

Prices range from an $11 salad, a $14 burger, to a $35 steak.  My husband had a steak which he couldn’t stop raving about. According to him, the steak was tender, juicy, and cooked “perfectly.” J. Alexander’s also provides full bar service, offers a few desserts, and serves espresso and cappuccino.

All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.  Our waiter was extremely polite and made us feel very welcome. This is one of those restaurants where they don’t try to push you away once you’re done eating.

When I got home and looked up J. Alexander’s, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have two restaurants in the Chicago area. I will definitely be back there for another veggie burger! I highly recommend J. Alexander’s.

Happy Travels!
